Antiwar Poem

What is war?
It is the final futility of domination.
It is the bloody backlash of exploitation.
It is the cost of collusion with the avaricious,
It is the fall from humanity, feral and pernicious.
Who suffers from war?
Many rich get richer and poorer in safety, in health and soul,
Cathected to power and justification of gold, it takes its toll.
But not fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, the young.
They lose life, arms, eyes, and hope of happy fulfillment, their tongue
Cannot say the despair of hearts ripped out by loved ones lost.
What can describe the loss?
Only the hammered chant of "patriotism" to mask the cost,
Again, the cycle has begun.
"If I am not for myself, who will be for me. If I am only for my self,
What am I? If not now, when."
